So while the visuals may not be as great, I do get a longer battery life when playing the game.Īs you can see from the screenshot above, the lighting effect is clearly better on my Mac. Therefore I suspect that the settings are tuned down and is standard across all iPads at the moment.

I also observed that my 11″ iPad Pro (2018 model) doesn’t heat up even after long hours of play. The game is equally playable on the iPad with a game controller. The lighting is a lot more natural when the settings are set at its highest levels. The visuals on the MacBook Pro with a GPU like the AMD RX 5700 XT is very impressive. I’ve also set all the visual effects to the Epic setting. I set the game to run at the highest detail level. The AMD RX 5700 XT is quite a power horse. Checking out the neons displays all across Union City Beyond a Steel Sky on the MacBook Pro powered by an AMD RX 5700 XTįirstly, let’s take a quick look at the visuals of Beyond a Steel Sky on my Mac. But of course, with a Sapphire Puls e AMD RX 5700 XT sitting in a Raxer Core X eGPU enclosure. Here, I will share the visuals of the game running on my iPad Pro and MacBook Pro. A game like this should be played on a Mac to fully appreciate the visuals.

But occasional, a game title like Beyond a Steel Sky drops. For me, that’s mostly between my iPhone and iPad. With Apple Arcade, you can seamlessly play the game between all your Apple devices. But wait, this isn’t a review of the game. It reminds me of the good ol’ adventure games that I used to play during my teen years. Beyond the Steel Sky is the highly anticipated sequel to the 1994 released Beneath a Steel Sky. It’s destined to have less cultural impact thanks to the recursion of its influences, and Beneath's innovations having been adopted by the wider industry, but this is surely the best 11 hours you can spend in the Australian desert.I’ve been playing Beyond a Steel Sky that has just been released on Apple Arcade.
#Beyond a steel sky cover Patch#
Is it a patch on the original? Not a patch, but an upgrade. Moments of head-scratching are nothing new in adventure games, of course, and they do nothing to detract from the superb world Revolution has constructed. Why is there an electric fence behind the waterfall when there’s no way through? How can Foster hide in lockers but not enter toilet cubicles?

An empty light socket looks very much like every other one. Puzzles can plunge into a maddening game of throwing every switch and trying every object with everything in your inventory (though there is an excellent hint system if you’re really stuck). A social-climbing character completely fails to notice that Foster is wearing a badge that marks him out as exactly the sort of aspirant he wasn’t the last time she spoke to him.

GPU drivers can be updated and subtitles patched, but there are also occasional failures of logic too, odd for a game whose denouement is tied up in paradoxes and reasoning.

The subtitles are also full of typos, with the occasional errant question mark perhaps attributable to Australian Question Intonation (opens in new tab), but not the misplaced apostrophes, multiple spaces between words, and misspellings. Unable to jump, Foster gets stuck on absolutely everything, even the outstretched leg of a corpse on the ground. The jerking about continued into the real world too, requiring a restart of the game. Unfortunately, it’s also possessed of weird graphical glitches such as characters walking into you when you’re in the middle of a conversation (or jumping to shoulder height and walking on the spot-this is earmarked for a fix), your long coat constantly clipping through whatever you’re standing next to, and a whole virtual world level that juddered violently for me whenever the camera moved. (Image credit: Revolution Software Ltd) Tech troublesīeyond a Steel Sky is built on Unreal 4, and mostly runs very nicely.
